The East of Scotland Strut welcomes you to our usually annual Fly-in. This is the first event we have had for a while. We are excited to be holding it at Balado.
The upgrading of Balado Airfield is substantial, and it is surely going to be a haven for light aviation. Come and see for yourself. You are very welcome.
Balado is to the west of Kinross. The airfield has been extensively redeveloped - with three grass runways, catering facilities, a campsite, outdoor viewing area, a comfortable clubhouse with on-site wifi and plenty of space for car and aircraft parking.
We will have the customary barbecue.
If overnighting in a local B & B or hotel, some car transport may be available, otherwise there will be a list of local taxis.
COVID
We must all observe the COVID requirements current at the time, particularly with regard to spacing. If the requirements remain unchanged, masks are compulsory inside buildings. Although there have been some recent relaxations in the legal requirements regarding COVID.
Arriving by Air
Approach the airfield from the south, north or west but not the east due to gliding activity in the Loch Leven area and also avoid areas in the airfield information page.
Airfield Plate to be published on Balado Airfield's website.
Free landings for Fly-in visitors.
Please make yourself known at the Control Point if you wish to fill with Mogas. We can provide Jerry cans and a lift to a garage close by.
PPR from Balado is essential. Contact Balado on 0778 398 2066.
Arriving by Road
The Airfield is on the A91 about 2 miles west of Kinross. Post Code: KY13 0RF
The safest route (to avoid stopping in the middle of a busy road to turn off):
Coming off the Northbound M90 at Junction 6 turn right towards Kinross. After 50-100 yards turn left (sign posted Milnathort), then follow the brown signs to Gallowhill. Go past the Gallowhill Camping entrance to the “T” Junction with the A91. Turn left and the entrance to the Airfield is on the left hand side. Follow the track to the parking area.
Or
Exit the M90 at Junction 6 and head west on the A977 past the service area. Take the next right to the A91. Turn right toward Milnathort and the airfield will appear on your right. Follow the track to the clubhouse and park. It is a short walk to the clubhouse/public area.
For members and enthusiasts, Control can provide airside access. Escorted hangar trips will be available.
If you have any queries, contact Iain Gibson before the event on 0131 339 2351 or at [email protected]
